About College.
With a great feeling of privilege and pleasure, I would like to introduce Government Degree College, Kovvuru, as a budding institution with a great future in the field of learning. The town Kovvuru which is traditionally called 'Govuru' or 'Goshpada Kshetram' has been an acclaimed seat of learning in Vedic Studies and Sanskrit for centuries. In the modern era also, mony Government and Private Educational institutions have emerged in the town. However, the establishment of Government Degree College can be said as a realization of long-cherished dream of the people of Kovvuru and surroundings.
The college was established in 2019 with four programs – BA, B.Com., B.Sc. (MPC), and B.Sc. (CBZ), in the campus of Government Junior College (Boys), Kovvuru. With the initiative and relentless efforts of Hon'ble Minister for Women & Child Welfare, Smt. Thaneti Vanitha, and the Hon'ble Member of Parliament, Rajahmundry constituency, Sri Margani Bharat, and the support and encouragement of the Commissioner of Collegiate Education, RJD of Higher Education, the local ID College, and the local philanthropists, intellectuals, and parents, the College laid its first steps towards a promising future. To run the academic and administrative affairs of the college in a smooth manner, Government has appointed a Special Officer/ Principal (FAC) and 10 faculty members from other Government Degree colleges on deputation basis. Utilising the resources of the Government Junior College and other neighbourhood Degree Colleges, the GDC, Kovvuru is catering to the needs of students with utmost dedication. The admissions for the academic years 2019-20 and 2020-21 have been encouraging and the results of the first batch have been promising. Not deterred by the death of infrastructure and permanent faculty, the College is striving to make its mark by catering to the educational needs of students from Kovvuru and surrounding villages.
As a good sign of progress, now the GDC Kovvuru is on the way to acquire its own land (4.48 acres) for the construction of College building. Further, the Government has been kind enough to sanction 24 Teaching posts and 14 Non-teaching posts and the final orders are expected in a short period. Once the own building comes and the posts are filled on permanent basis, I strongly believe that the college will flourish as a proud institution of higher learning and will serve the society by moulding the students into knowledgeable, skillful, and responsible citizens.
On behalf of all our faculty members, non-teaching staff, and students, I thank all the stakeholders of the College for their dedicated support and encouragement, and request for extension of the same in future.
