Report on 4 week Awareness programme by Women Empowerment Cell,
Government Degree College, Kovvur

As per the instructions received from CCE, Mangalagiri; Women Empowerment cell of Government Degree College, Kovvur has organized a month long programme from 25/11/2022 to 23/12/22 as part of DAY-NRLM aimed at gender equality.

In the 1st week, the women empowerment cell of GDC,Kovvur,under the chairmanship of Dr.J.Suneetha garu,principal of the college conducted an awareness program on 27-11_22 on gender discrimination, its effects and how to prevent. Smt.Dr.Srilatha chairperson of BOS,Department of Political Science, Osmaina University, Hyderabad is invited to deliver a speech. She said gender inequality in India refers to the health, education, economic and political inequalities, between men and women .Research shows gender discrimination mostly in favour of men. Discrimination affects many aspects in the lives of women from career development and progress to mental health disorders. Gender discrimination must be checked at every stage so that no person should be denied a chance to learn and grow .Thus, everyone, no matter male and female, must get a start in life in terms of education and other opportunities. We must come together as a society to do this. All the teaching and non-teaching members also attended and made it a grand success.

In the 2nd week women empowerment cell of, GDC Kovvur, has conducted an awareness programme on 7-12-'23 on the topic "Child marriages", effects on each gender, causes, consequences and how to prevent under the chairmanship of the principal,Smt.J.Suneetha garu.Smt.Rajakumari, from medical department, has delivered a speech. She said, child marriage is any marriage where atleast one of the parties is under 18 years of age.Worldwide,more than 650 million women alive today were marrired as childern,atleast 12 million girls are married before they reach the age of 18.When a girl is,taken for early marriage,she may not know how to keep her children,herself and even home neat and healthy.She suffers from health problems due to unwanted pregnancies. She over burdens with domestic work. So, we must educate and empower girls against child marriages and by rallying the wider community to stand up for girls' rights.

In the 3rd week women empowerment cell of, GDC Kovvur, has conducted an awareness programme on 19-12-'23 on "Domestic violence ", effects and how to prevent, and also use of Disha app under the chairmanship of the principal,Smt.J.Suneetha garu.Sri A.L.S..Ravi kumar, Circle Inspector, Kovvur police station, addressed the students. He said, disha contains tracking and safety features for every user which helps police to track the user if she alerts using the app during any emergency situation. He said that the app has officially launched and is available on Google play store for down load. The application works completely offline and does not require GPS signal and Wi-Fi connection. He also said that how to use Disha app.By shaking the phone after opening the app 3 to five times GPS in the mobile will be activated automatically and nearby police will be alerted. It also integrated with needful information like nearby safety places, police stations and hospitals.

He also added that if any form of sexual harassment takes place in one’s case, he/ she consult with law firm that handles sexual harassment. Sexual harassment at work place or at home is against the law and should never be tolerated.
